PM suggests faster shift to own settlement mechanisms within EAEU

MOSCOW, Jun 21 (PRIME) -- The Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) members should speed up shifting to their own multinational financial settlement mechanisms and expand the use of the national currencies for foreign trade cooperation, Russia’s Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said at a meeting of the Eurasian intergovernmental council on Tuesday.

“We suggest a faster shift to own multinational financial settlement mechanisms, expanding the use of the national currencies in foreign trade cooperation between us and the states that have proved to be reliable partners,” he said.

Mishustin also said that the EAEU that comprises Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan, should raise import substitution cooperation in the high-tech industry and reduce the dependence on imports.

The collective West’s pressure on some members of the EAEU strengthens, and a joint answer of all the participants is necessary, the prime minister also said.
